It could be said that prolific writer Alexander McCall Smith creates worlds in which readers love to live. An internationally respected medical ethicist by training, McCall Smith has been writing about the world around him for more than 50 years, penning a staggering 90 books in his lifetime that includes academic titles, short story collections, serial mystery novels, and children's books.
Just Buffalo’s exciting afterschool program, RECLAIMING BUFFALO, in
collaboration with CEPA Gallery, is currently enrolling students (ages
11-16) for Winter & Spring sessions. Combining photography, creative writing, and computer literacy, this unique program has already received rave reviews.
Medaille College's Write Thing Reading Series just might be one of the most eclectic visiting artist series at any educational institution in Buffalo. Each semester, Medaille invites from 3 to 6 published poets and fiction writers to campus for readings and/or class visits. Students at Medaille have the unique chance to meet up close and personal with Pulitzer Prize winners, National Book Award finalists, Guggenheim Fellowship recipients, and some of the most renowned international writers of today - as well as up-and-coming younger writers.
Established in 1997, the Canisius College Contemporary Writers Series brings fiction writers and poets of national stature to the Canisius campus to read from their work and to meet with students, faculty, and members of our community. This year's writers include: Stewart O’Nan, Joyce Carol Oates, Aryn Kyle, and Bernard O’Donoghue. All readings include a question-and-answer period, a reception, and a book-signing; all are free and open to the public.
